Heritage Marks T-Shirt

Heritage marks are the ones that survive — the symbols pressed into clay before it hardened, the motifs carved into stone doorways, the patterns woven into fabric as a form of record-keeping. The Heritage Marks T-Shirt assembles several of those marks onto a single surface, treating the shirt body as an archive.

On a brown jersey base, front and back jute sublimation patches carry their own visual language — sublimation on jute produces a particular quality of image, slightly textured, slightly raw, different from print on smooth fabric. Screen-printed back artwork adds a larger-scale composition. Block-printed khaddar patches are laser-cut into traditional forms and applied across the body — the laser cut producing a precision of edge that distinguishes them from hand-torn or hand-cut alternatives. A hand-embroidered RASTAH logo completes the piece at the chest.

Brown is the colour of the archive — of old paper, of worn leather, of the earth that archaeological sites are excavated from. Against it, the khaddar patches and jute sublimations read as fragments recovered, as pieces of something larger that the shirt reassembles. The hand embroidery on the logo marks the piece as current, as alive, as something being made now rather than unearthed.
